Branford House Spring Vintage Wedding

Today we have Kate and Yannick’s stunning wedding at the Branford House, in Groton, CT. Forever more, this wedding will hold a special place in my heart, as it was my very first wedding assisting Kris and shooting details. I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to work with as my introduction into the world of wedding photography!
On the day of the wedding as I entered the historic mansion, I met our bride, Kate, as she was floating from table to table, directing the layout of the flowers and decor. I could tell instantly that she was one of those brides that was attentive to detail and involved in all aspects of the day, down to the very last piece of lavender that topped the table napkins. The art deco styled mansion was decorated with mismatched china, flickering candles, and a gorgeous palette of pink, cream, and light peach flowers. With help from family and friends, Kate handmade the invitations and seating chart, spray painted the vases, and displayed a number of antique items she found at thrift stores, including a very cool, old fashion typewriter. Imagine all of that vintage charm, paired with the bride’s touch of girly glitz (I mean, she had Geronimo balloons at the dessert table!) and you have a perfect old world meets modern Gatsby style wedding!
The ceremony took place on the edge of the mansion grounds overlooking the ocean, creating a breathtaking backdrop as Kate walked down the grassy aisle. She wore a crown of flowers and had her grandfather’s handkerchief tucked into the pocket of her dress. (Can we just pause a moment and revel in the fact that her wedding dress had pockets?! Genius.) Yannick and Kate said their vows in front of family and friends, and then all enjoyed a cocktail hour complete with ring toss, croquet, and corn hole, as the sky slowly turned cotton candy pink.
When the sun was just about to set, we grabbed the newlyweds and bridal party and returned outside where Kris snapped some of my favorite shots of the day (see below). Then, Yannick and Kate joined the reception and dined and danced the night away to songs they had specially chosen.
Thanks to: Joel Callaway for shooting with me and the ladies at Upstyle Beauty for the deft brush-work on Kate and her bridesmaids. Also, introducing our new assistant and writer Lauren Ann Isleib. She handled most of the details for this wedding, and we look forward to all her hard work.
