Our Albums
Impeccably crafted books made with the finest materials…
Since 2011 we have built Madera Books on an obsessive pursuit of being the best. Whether it’s making a family heirloom that will be passed down from generation to generation or treating our customers as family, no one cares more or tries harder.
The Leather Book
Made with old world craftsmanship and a whole lotta love. Covered in an array of luxurious European leathers, soft, supple lamb or gorgeous calf hide, this book looks like a million bucks… and that’s before you open it and see your photographs.
The Silk Book
If the Leather Book is the rugged Groom, then the Silk Book is a beautiful Bride…
Made with the same love and care, we took the best parts of The Leather Book, and traded the supple leather for soft silk. We switched out the black substrate and inside covers for white. What you end up with is a light, airy, premium book with all of those fine-art feels.
FAQs
WHAT STYLES OF DESIGN DO YOU OFFER?
We design in a clean, simple style. No colored backgrounds —mostly white, occasionally black. No, overlapping or tilted pictures. A few to a handful of full spreads or full page photos. If you’re looking for something that’s a little more complex, we’re happy to hear your vision and work with you, for an additional design fee.
WILL I HAVE TO PICK ALL THE PHOTOS BEFORE SUBMITTING MY ORDER?
No, this is one of the ways we simplify the process and serve you. We were there beside you on your wedding day, feeling all the feels as we documented and remember the day quite well as your storytellers. We’ll draw on that first-hand experience, and our knowledge as professionals, take the reins, and put together the first draft of your album.
Note: While we do find our process alleviates the stress of choosing all the photos from our clients and helps move the process along efficiently for all, you shouldn’t feel like you can’t communicate with us which photos you want in your album. Please, send us a short favorites list of your “must-haves” and we’ll be sure to include them.
HOW DO I KNOW HOW MANY SPREADS TO ORDER?
On average you can assume about 4 images per spread. Not that each spread will have 4 images, it’s just an average. So if you order a 20 page/10 spread album, it will likely include with 35-40 images.
Now, we always allow a “design buffer” in our albums of 10% larger then the album that is ordered. This gives us the opportunity to fully tell your wedding story without having to necessarily adhere to a strict number of pages/spreads. If it’s right on target: great! If we feel it needs another page, or you need to add some images that are important to you and that turns into another spread: we’ve got you covered.
Note: If it turns out we need more spreads to tell your story than you order, plus the design buffer, we’ll be transparent and alert you ASAP. We do have a-la-carte pricing for additional spreads, or we can decide on making cuts from the album to stay on budget.
HOW WILL YOU PROOF THE DESIGN?
We have a simple and elegant online proofing system. You will communicate changes you would like made through the system. We see the changes requested, make those changes, and alert you to the changes without you having to do anything. Two (2) rounds of revisions to the entire album are included in the price of the design.
Note: When making revisions, it’s handy to have the album proofing system open on one device, and your wedding photo proofing galley open on another.
HOW MANY CHANGES CAN I MAKE AFTER I SEE THE PROOF?
Two rounds of the entire album are included in the price of the design. Additional revision fees are applied beyond two (2). We recommend you take your time reviewing the design before asking for changes to reduce the chances of multiple revisions.
On the first round, is where you would do the bulk of the contents editing. Use this round for all the photo swaps, or to add or remove and photos you do or don’t want. The second round is built in just in case in case there are changes that you would like made after seeing the results of the first round of changes.
CAN YOU MAKE SOME OF THE IMAGES BLACK AND WHITE?
Well of course! While some of the images in your gallery may have been presented in black and white for artistic or technical reasons when we design our albums, we’re now looking at the aesthetic of the album layout. While we design, some images may be converted to black and white that hadn’t been before. (Rarely do we mix both black and white and color images on a spread.) If you’d like to see a spread in black and white, you can make this request during your revision rounds.
WHAT IF WE DISAGREE ON ASPECTS OF THE ALBUM DESIGN?
At the beginning of the day, we’re artists. At the end of the day, we serve our clients. If we make a design suggestion and you hate it, let’s talk about it. If you want to make a change to your album that we feel may break some artistic value or aesthetic principle, we’ll let you know. That doesn’t mean either one of us is wrong; it means we have opinions, and we invite collaborative discussion and the exchange of ideas to ensure your album is something you 1000% love for the rest of your life. Also: you’re paying for it! So, at the end of the day, it’s your decision. (We’re here to guide you.)
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE DESIGN TO BE READY? WHAT ABOUT THE ALBUM ITSELF?
We work hard to get you the design as quickly as possible. That’s the whole point of working with us, right? It should never take longer than 12 business days for the initial design. After that the timeline can vary depending on the speed that you take to review, offer changes, and, finally, approve the design and finalize cover details. Once approved, it will take approximately 21 business days for our bookbinder to make your album (remember: handmade in the USA) before shipping it back to us for inspection. Once approved, we’ll inform you it is ready for pickup or shipping.
All-in-all, you’re looking at a minimum of a 5 week turnaround.
OH NO! I WANTED TO BRING OUR ALBUM TO OUR FAMILY AND SHOW THEM AT CHRISTMAS! CAN WE GET IT FASTER?
Yes. Rush service on both design and bookbinding is available, however, there will be a rush fee. Depending on time of year and workload both we and the bookbinder are under, the rush fee may vary. In no circumstance could we turn it all around in less than 15 business days.
